    Canonbury station serves the area, it is on the London Overground, in Travelcard Zone 2. Angel, Essex Road and Highbury & Islington stations are also close to the area; these offer Northern Line and East and North London Line trains. Canonbury is also situated, conveniently, around the A1, which runs toward Islington southward and Archway in the north, if you are looking to travel by road.

    Canonbury has a particularly healthy arts and theatre scene, it was once the playground of literary giants such as George Orwell and Evelyn Waugh but is now home to media types.

    The Compton Arms is one of the three pubs Orwell used as inspiration for his essay “The Moon Under Water”, in which he provided a detailed description of his ideal pub.

    The Estorick Collection of Modern Italian Art is another favourite pastime of Canonbury local’s, this is Britain’s only gallery that exclusively exhibits 20th century Italian works. The gallery is also housed in one of Canonbury’s Grade II listed buildings, which is worth a visit in itself.
